About imFlexible

Ann-MarieOver the years countless people have come to me with pain in their low-back, their neck, their jaw or even their knees; others with shoulder pain and headaches. I began to notice that in order to remedy their problem, I had to look for the source.  If I had just put a band-aid on and treated the area that hurt, they would've felt good for a little while, but the same pain would always return. Has this been your experience?

It's imperative that the structure of our skeleton be in alignment first, before we can deal with the individual parts. Checking the level of our pelvic bones is key.
Think about it. They are the center of gravity for the whole body! When they are leveled, the spine can then be straightened. Once the whole body is realigned, it is amazing how the individual pain is then able to be relieved. My passion is to EMPOWER YOU to understand how your body works. You are very capable of relieving your own pain, and the pain of those you love, once you understand!

My Personal Journey

I am, by trade, a licensed Physical Therapist. I have an appreciation of the awesome design of our bodies, and I like to work with the design rather than against it. I was trained at the University of Connecticut, which was, at the time I attended, one of the top schools for physical therapy. I learned what they had to offer, but as I began to practice, I realized there was so much I did NOT know. (Is that perhaps, the beginning of wisdom?)

So, I have pursued what seemed to be the most effective in the field. "Hands on", rather than “hands off” and on exercise machines. John Barnes, a highly gifted and charismatic individual, was my teacher for the start of this journey. I learned the beginnings of myo-fascial release and cranio-sacral therapy from him and his staff in Paoli, Pennsylvania. I realized the importance of working with the body as a whole, considering that the place of pain may not be the source of it. I used that for about ten years, and then pursued another technique know as Manual Therapy. Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo was my teacher, along with all her wonderful therapists at Regional Physical Therapy in West Hartford, Connecticut. It was when I realized that these two techniques could be combined that I began to be effective in what I did. I realized how important it was for the person being treated to have the correct knowledge of the anatomy of their own body. You’d be as surprised as I was to realize that most people do not know what their own skeleton looks like and they certainly do not understand the direction of “pull” of some of the most important muscles in their body.

I want to share with you, if I may, what I've learned in over over twenty years of working with people’s bodies.
